Ethan Home ... First Year ... Also Known As...

Lima Bean.     In the beginning, we figured he was about the size of a lima bean, and probably about that shape, too. In a little while he graduated to Fava Bean, but that just wasn't as fun for some reason, and never really caught on.
Wombat. We didn't really have any idea what a wombat looks like, but we called him that because he was in my womb.
Puppy. Jeff discovered that it was very fun to say, "We're having a puppy." And he was right. Try it: "We're having a puppy!" OK, maybe you have to actually be pregnant for that to be fun, but take my word for it, it was.
Sputnik. Towards the very end of my pregnancy, my stomach developed several hard pokey bits.
And then finally, Ethan was born, which opened up a whole new range of possible nicknames... one of the first was Burrito Baby, because of the way they swaddled him at the hospital. We quickly learned to swaddle him that way too ("Would you like one tortilla or two today, sir?"), though he made it clear shortly after we brought him home that he didn't like it anymore.
Baby Bee. I suppose we started this one because he has several cute little outfits from Carter's that have bees on them.
And sometimes we also call him Baby Bird, I guess because of the alliteration. And because of the way he opens his mouth to feed. In a similar vein, we sometimes have called him Baby Fishmouth, mostly in the early days of feeding... as in, "Come on, big baby fishmouth, BIG baby fishmouth..."
Monkey Boy. In his early days, he looked quite monkey-like, with his little pointy chin (which has since become several chins). He also did a brief stint as Snorty Pig, partly because he was a little congested, and partly because of the ravenous way he would snortily attack my breast when he was hungry.
Baby Bear. This is definitely the most lasting of all his nicknames, and the one we use most often. Its variations include Sleepy Bear, Grumbly Bear, Little Bear, and Hungry Bear. And of course this makes us Mama Bear and Papa Bear. I know, I know, it's sickeningly cute. But that's what happens when you have a baby.
