Hawaii vacation
We got back yesterday morning after taking a red-eye flight Wednesday night. Yawn. Ethan slept the entire flight, and then slept again until 1 pm after we got home. So he's basically recovered, unlike the rest of us.
We did so many fun things... it's hard to pick the highlights. My favorite was going to Makapuu Point and hiking down the cliff (only slightly harrowing) to these big tidepools you can swim in. It was a great way for Ethan to swim in the ocean, since the waves only occasionally crashed in, and even then the effect was gentle. The tidepools were big, and deep -- too deep for me to stand in places. And they had lots of fish in them. Ethan really liked swimming in a pool with a fish, especially the rainbow-colored parrotfish we saw.
He loved the Honolulu zoo, which had lots of tortoises, as well as some very entertaining chimpanzees. When asked what he saw at the zoo, Ethan always said first, "A nene," which is a Hawaiian goose. He also enjoyed saying "mahalo" instead of thank you, which charmed all sorts of people because he sounds so cute saying it.
We also got to visit with Kenny, including seeing a little performance by his group. We ate lots of good food, went out for dinner just the two of us, and visited a lot with Nancy and Fred. We hiked to a waterfall, played at the beach, went to the aquarium, and went snorkeling too. All in all, lots of fun. I'll get the pictures up soon.
