New dog
I was away a lot the last two weeks -- first a taiko tour to Vancouver, B.C., and then a 3-day business trip, with just one night at home in between. They got a dog while I was gone. (I was consulted by phone, at least.)
Teddy (he came with the name, and Ethan didn't want to change it) is half Australian shepherd, half border collie. He's sort of medium-sized. I was apprehensive, but so far he's been a very good dog. He's 7 months old and still excitable.
Ethan quickly adopted Jeff's words and tone with the dog, and it's cute to hear him say, "No, Teddy. Leave it, Teddy." One good side effect is that I think we'll all get more exercise, especially Jeff, who has so far gotten up every morning at 7 to take Teddy for a long walk.
The other day Ethan was wearing his special Bob the Builder underpants for a while, playing on the computer upstairs while Jeff was downstairs. Ethan called out, "Daddy... I have to go potty!" and when Jeff looked up the stairs, Ethan was standing at the top with his pants and underpants down around his ankles. Hooray for the beginning of toilet training...
Ethan likes playing with Jeff's old junior Scrabble game. One one side of the board, there are various words spelled out, and Ethan likes to find all the letters to go on top of them. He was spelling "AIRPLANE," and had gotten through the L, when he looked at it, laughed, and said, "It says airpul!" I thought that was pretty clever.
