Montana wedding
We had a great time at Jeff's dad's wedding in Bozeman, Montana. That was almost a month ago now, of course. Pictures will be up soon. Ethan and Nicholas were the ring bearers, and I made them each a nice pillow to carry. Dan and Carolyn bought them black jeans, white shirts, red bandanas, and little black cowboy hats. The hats were too small for our big-headed offspring, but Ethan just wore his on his back. They both looked cute. But when it came time to carry the rings down the aisle, Angie and I had to carry them, and Ethan, my supremely well-behaved child, was screaming his head off. Then Ethan wouldn't give up the ring when we got there. He was saying, "NO! NO! Not my ring!"
So after an eternity (or maybe 2 minutes), I got the ring away from him and gave it to Jeff, and we sneaked off around the corner for the rest of the ceremony. The next best bit was when the minister said something like, "Let us take off our shoes and kneel before Jesus..." and Nicholas, who was still up near the front, started saying, "Shoes OFF! Shoes OFF!" So Angie joined me around the corner and took off Nicholas' shoes, and everyone was happy.
In other news, Ethan's reading is improving at an alarming rate. Yesterday we were writing an email to Erika (which we never sent, because Ethan kept wanting to erase it all away). He spelled "hi erika" and after that, I just started typing sentences, which he would read aloud after almost no delay. Simple things, like "Teddy is my dog" and "He is black and white," but still, I was surprised. He's been reading "Hop on Pop" and also this new book he got called "Do cars fly?" but in those cases, it's a combination of reading, guessing, and remembering. Anyway, it's neat, and he is very proud of himself and wants to read everything in sight.
