Piano man
We brought down my old keyboard for Ethan to play with - it's old, but has 60 keys and dozens of sampled instruments to play with. Because Ethan had started getting into playing actual songs on his little electronic piano that Jeff's dad gave him when he turned one. True to form, Ethan got very focused on that one thing, and now he plays every day. What's cool is that although he asks for help in figuring songs out, once he knows how they start, he can hear when he plays the wrong note and figure out the right one. Then Jeff bought him a kids' beginning piano book, so he's learning how to read music as well. He got the book last week, when Jeff came home from Seattle. The next day I left for a work trip. On Thursday night when I called, Ethan said, "We're writing a concert!" which turned out to mean he was writing a playlist with all the songs he knew. He played them over the phone for me and for Erika, who was with me at the time. He played Frere Jacques (he wrote out the words as "Fara Shoka"), Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, London Bridge, the first few bars of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and a song from his book. Then he played Mary Had a Little Lamb while reading the music from his book. He was very proud. Of course Linna wants in on the action too.
