Big brother

The other morning we were all still in bed, and Linna was sitting up. Jeff started stroking her hair, and then Ethan did it too. It was so cute.

And here he is helping her with her shoes:

Not to say that it's all sweetness and light - if he feels out of control, for example if we're trying to get him to do something he doesn't want to do, and he starts to get upset, and by chance Linna is there, he might hit or shove her. Not a good scene. But we're working on various ways of handling things so that we don't get into that situation.

Ukulele boy

On Saturday we went to Artichoke Music's Folk Music Festival. We didn't stay long, but heard a few kids at the open mike outside, had some ice cream, and listened inside for a bit. Then we up and bought Ethan a ukulele! I've been thinking about it for a while, since he really wanted to learn guitar, but a regular-sized guitar is just really hard for him. And ukulele is easier not just because it's smaller, but also because it only has four strings. Anyway, we went with the cheapest option among the real instruments (as opposed to the toys) - it has a nice sound, seems pretty durable, and came in many colors. He picked orange, since it didn't happen to come in his favorite color - black. He looked too cute with the case slung across his back, walking around the folk music festival in his deck pants with a red bandana on his head.

So, now he plays the ukulele all the time. He only knows one chord so far - C - but likes to play and sing along anyway.
