May 19 - He did three new things today, in the space of 5 minutes: he kinda
sorta walked with me holding his hands; holding on to the exersaucer, he
bounced it up and down and back and forth; and then he let go of one hand,
almost fell, and grabbed with the other hand to catch his balance.

He squinches up his face and smiles. It's cute. Jeff put him in the bath in
just a few inches of water, and let him sit by himself rather than getting in
with him. He said Ethan loved it, and just splashed and splashed. He also lay
Ethan down in the water, and he just went nuts smiling and splashing. I think
he might be ready to try a swimming pool soon.

He has one top tooth. Another one is trying hard to poke through.

May 23 - Mom, Gammi, and Erika arrived for a visit, and Jeff made a fabulous
pizza dinner.

Erika woke up and went to get Ethan before we did -- we were doing our usual
lazy thing of pretending to be asleep so the other person would go get him. It
was great that Erika could do it instead. We went to the Vancouver farmers'
market, and then to Dan's for a quick visit. Ethan was sleepy, as he'd had no
nap yet. But he refused to sleep. I think it's hard for him when we're out and
about all day.

May 25 - We all went shopping today. I haven't been clothes shopping in
forever, and I needed some jeans that fit. Surprisingly, my prepregnancy
clothes are a little on the big side. My theory is that it's the nursing plus
pumping extra to donate. Anyway, I bought Ethan some shorts and some swim
trunks, too. When we got home, Jeff had totally prepped the back corner bed,
even building up the back corner. So Erika and I moved rocks to make a wall,
and then planted everything in the top bed. I love it. Then we had to go
shopping for some food, and picked up a few more purple plants for that bed.
It's very purple.

We took a brief walk around the neighborhood with Ethan in the backpack while
Gammi sat out on the porch. We had dinner with Ann and Zack -- very yummy. It
was funny -- they'd been gone for the weekend, so we just went to their house
and stole their pizza stone on Friday night. I left them a message today
letting them know, and asking about dinner. It turns out that when they got
home, they were searching everywhere for the pizza stone, and finally Ann
thought, "Hmm... I wonder if Karen and Jeff borrowed it? We should check
messages." I guess they don't have that many friends who would boldly let
themselves in and just take it, so it was a good guess. At dinner, Ethan fell
off the chair in Ann and Zack's living room -- I ran to save him, but he dived
onto his face before I could stop him. I felt TERRIBLE.

May 27 - I really think he said "dada" to Jeff when we were outside having
lunch. Gorgeous day, though a bit hot. Ethan started swaying from side to side,
and sometimes shaking his head at the same time -- it's a new dance. We had his
9-month appointment today. He's 22 lbs 8 ounces, and 31 3/4 inches long. I
tried to talk to the doctor more, express more opinions, and it went better, I
think. Though she does get a bit defensive if we don't agree with her.

May 28 - Fusseronomous today. His other top front tooth is almost in. I think
it pains him.
