Smile!
Linna smiled today! I was playing around making silly noises and touching her nose, and she smiled three or four real smiles. Hooray!

Bigger every day
She's making lots of cute noises now, not just cries. No real smiles yet, but I think she's close.
So far, she's still a very mellow baby, just looking around when she's awake. She does have some fussy times in the evening, but not as bad as Ethan did. Yet.
She is SO CUTE. I can't stand it. She's poogly all over, and her hair sometimes still sticks straight up like a mohawk.

Saturday
Jeff stayed home with Linna so he could work, which is hard - when he works all weekend I don't get any kid-free time. And anyway, Linna was fussy enough that he didn't get much done. And she's started refusing the bottle, which I was afraid of. Well, Ethan was the same and we survived, right?
Last Thursday was her two-month appointment. She's now 11 lbs 2 oz, which puts her at the 75th percentile for her age. As the doctor said, the fact that she came early is now just a memory. She's at the 50th percentile for height (guess the tall gene hasn't kicked in yet?), and the 75th for head size. Will her head be as gargantuan as Ethan's? I don't know.
The terrible thing was they found a hair wrapped around one of her little toes, which was swollen up and looked like a little mushroom. The doctor couldn't even get it off for an hour. We had to ice her toe, submerge her foot in cold water (she loved that), and finally they got it off with tweezers and scissors. Now her toe is fine. But it does explain why she was so uncharacteristically fussy the night before...
It's funny how people always ask, "So, is she letting you sleep through the night?" Does anyone with a newborn ever answer yes?

Cutie
Linna is sooooo cute. She's getting that cute pudgy baby look, instead of the weird alien newborn look. She's making more different noises, and has started to reach for things she's interested in. Her little legs are very poogy, with rolls on her rolls.
When she nurses, she squeaks. Always has. She is also a big grunter, which I don't remember Ethan doing much. When the milk gets going, she just squeaks and grunts and snorts, very loudly. Not a very discreet nurser.
I've been putting her in all the newborn-size things that Erika tie-dyed, because they've suddenly gone from ludicrously large to quite tight. Her belly is very round.
She's two months old today.

yawn...
Having a hard few days. I have pricky ouchies on my stomach, plus bruising or something inside from having the ovarian cysts removed. It makes it hard to hold Linna constantly, in or out of the pouch/sling, but she really wants to be held all the time. Last night she was fussy even when I WAS holding her. I remember this with Ethan, too, and it's probably not yet that bad, but it's more challenging because Ethan wants attention too. I guess that's just the reality of two kids.
Jeff told me early yesterday evening that I seem very calm and centered, more so than I've been for years. I appreciated that, but I believe he was disabused of the notion by the end of the night. Sadly, I'm not doing much better even after a reasonably good night's sleep. (The approximation of a good night's sleep that you can get with an 8-week-old baby.)
But it's snowing, which is kind of cool.

Our preemie bruiser
At almost 7 weeks, Linna weighs in at 10 pounds. That means she's gained a pound a week since the last time she was weighed at 3 weeks. We just passed her due date last week.

blog for Linna
Linna gets her own blog. The current news is that although she's doing great, growing bigger all the time, right now she's a little difficult because I can't put her down. Thank goodness for our Maya pouch.
