Someone's in there
Suddenly Linna seems more aware somehow. She's more interested in her toys, and in the books we read at bedtime. (I feel a little guilty that we don't give her much one-on-one reading time - with Ethan we read him books every night from a very young age, but she just kind of tags along on the books we read to Ethan.) She's started twisting like crazy, trying to roll over, and she really enjoys sucking on her fingers, which is great. And she REALLY wants to try food. She's almost 6 months now, so it won't be too long. I think she'll have fun with it.
I got a few pictures of Ethan reading to Linna - pretty cute.
On the down side, we had an icky couple of days at the beginning of the week. Jeff was gone, and it was far too hot. Linna was unhappy about that, and spit up on me several times. Icky warm ones, all over both of us. So I decided we'd both hop in the bath to cool down and clean up, and when I took her diaper off she was covered in stinky green poop. Well, that's a baby for you.

Linna's first swim
On Saturday we went to Mt. Scott pool, which Ethan loves. We decided to all go this time, so I found one of Ethan's old swim diapers - not so very old, in fact he could wear them 6 months ago - which are pink with Ariel the mermaid on them. It was a little big for Linna, but it worked.
She liked it, just kind of bobbing around in the shallow end with me or Jeff. Ethan had a blast, as usual, going around the river and the kid washing machine, as he calls it. Linna was more serene than ecstatic, but it was nice. While Jeff manned them both, I actually got in the big pool and swam some laps. I think the last time I did that was when I was pregnant with Ethan, so it's been a while. It was really nice.

Cute
Why can't I think of anything to write about Linna except how cute she is? She is SO CUTE. She's gotten so big and pudgy. As she gets older, I actually think she looks less like Ethan, although they definitely look like siblings. But her face is narrower, and her eyes deeper-set. Maybe she looks like me, just a little? Her eyes are starting to turn color, but of course we can't tell how they'll end up. Right now they're gray-blue-green with a little brown.
| Her hair is ridiculous. It still sticks up on top, but is starting to curl there where it's long. She's got a huge bald spot on the back of her head, because when she wakes up at night, she tends to just move her head back and forth instead of cry to get our attention. It does wake me up, in fact, and then I take her and feed her.
She's a great sleeper, actually. She takes three short naps, more or less, during the day, but then just zonks out around 8 or 8:30. She usually wakes up once during the night, then again in the early morning at 5 or 6 o'clock. Not bad at all. If there were just more room in our family bed, I'd be getting plenty of sleep. | |
She's also getting stronger, and will tolerate being on her tummy and pushing herself up for a short while. Sometimes we put her in our hand-me-down bouncy chair (thanks, Janice!), and she doesn't mind it... but when we unbuckle her to pick her up, she just looks so excited and happy, and starts kicking her little legs for all she's worth.
She finds Ethan the most interesting of all. He's gotten several more bouts of giggles from her. She also enjoys lying on the gymini mat and playing with the big spider over her head.
