Ba-ba-ba!

Linna likes to say "ba ba" right now. Ethan decided she was saying "ball" the other night, because she kept saying it and grabbing her ball. So he'd say, "That's right, Linna. Ba-ba-ba-BALL!" Soooo cute.

Last night after Linna and I got home she kept reaching for Jeff and saying "dada!" So who knows... maybe she's already having her first words and we're just not convinced she knows what she's saying. She also developed the ability to say "va" yesterday. She's very proud.

Sometimes we sit her down in the kitchen and give her a rice paddle and a pot for a drum. We call it "bing bing" and she likes that a lot.

Scooter

Now she scoots forward on her bottom as well, when sitting. She really moves, too. She sets her sights on something, and goes after it. She seems to have made some kind of cognitive jump, too. She and Jeff had a conversation the other day. It consisted of Jeff saying, "Num, num!" and then Linna responding, "Nyum, nyum!" The interesting thing is that she usually responds with the same number of "nums" you say to her.

She's back to sleeping a little better at night - we had several nights of just the usual 4 am waking, nothing more. But the daytime naps have been very hard. Those teeth! They just HAVE to be almost here.

I found the box I put all of Ethan's baby toys in, and Linna's very happy. She likes the beads on a wire thingy, and the cloth book I brought up. I'll bring up more soon.

Last week she had her 9-month appointment. They said she's 75th percentile for weight, 95th for height... 20 lbs and 29 inches long. But I didn't quite buy it, as I think they accidentally gave her a half an inch on the height. Anyway, close enough. She's biggish but not a giant. Speaking of giants... we had an extra baby one day. I had sent out a general call for anyone needing just a little childcare, and one of the families in the Mt. Tabor parents group responded. So Mya's going to work for them one evening, and then the baby (who is a giant at 3 months younger than Linna) will come here one afternoon a week. Yesterday she came in the morning, and the two babies really seem to like each other. It's pretty cute. I hope she and Linna will be friends.

New clothes

Today I got Linna some new clothes. It doesn't happen often, because frankly she has lots of them already, what with hand-me-downs and gifts. But now that it's getting cold, and of course Ethan's old clothes are all completely the wrong seasons... and Fred Meyer was having a sale on some very cute things. Carter's has branched out into ultra-cute girly blue and purple clothes, not just pink. I have a real weakness for the purple ones. I did, however, resist the purple velvet overalls. But it wasn't easy.

The radius you have to watch out when you set her down is getting bigger, too. She still can't quite crawl, but she sure gets into position and rocks. And she can flip forward onto her tummy and grab things that way. Last week Mya left her on the floor and went to do something, and when she came back Linna had eaten a song out of her book of songs. Ethan's favorite song, actually. Fortunately they've sung it so much he knows it by heart anyway.

She continues to adore solid food, though we had to slow down for a bit because she seemed to be, uh, having trouble pooping. So we're back to every other day or so. Sometimes we just give her a bottle of water to play with and that makes her happy. Today Jeff was squirting it into her mouth, and she got that it was a game right away. She was most amused. Then after dinner Ethan got a bath, and apparently Linna so obviously wanted to go in, that Jeff stuck her in as well. She splashed, and played, and pushed Ethan's head under the water as he sang "Old Dan Tucker." Now she's all clean and new and smells like Burt's Baby Bees lotion.

This weekend was tough, though - lately she's had a lot of trouble falling asleep during the day. Even the usual tricks - walking, wearing her, driving - don't seem to do the trick for long. Both days I ended up wearing her in the Ergo on my back until she feel asleep, and then I continued to play with Ethan. It's fine, but even in the Ergo she gets a little bit heavy. (However, I have totally drunk the Ergo kool-aid; it's a fantastic baby carrier in every way.)

The teeth must be coming soon. She's 9 months old! And still no teeth, not even one.

I'm leaning towards the flower fairy, especially since that was the only vote I got.
