Happy Birthday, baby!
So Linna turned one on Saturday. January 13th. She's such a big girl now. I can so easily remember what it was like a year ago, being in the hospital, her birth, then the NICU... it's so nice not to have to worry about her. She's a big, solid girl, so friendly and happy.
We had a casual little party - just the neighbor friends, mostly, plus Leah and Zoe. Karla and Jay were there with Will and Anna, Lori and Andrew with Leland, Kris with Jamie and Ben, and Chris and Molly too. I cannily set it up for 3 pm so I wouldn't have to stress about food, and we just had simple snacks.
For Christmas, Dave and Angie got Ethan a book called "Cook-a-doodle-doo!" that's all about a rooster and his friends making a strawberry shortcake. Ethan loves it. So we decided to make it for Linna's birthday (the book has a recipe), and that's what we did. It turned out very good, and it didn't have a lot of sugar to overload our poor girl's system. She LOVED it. She also really liked being the center of attention when we sang happy birthday, and she just dove in to the whipped cream and strawberries. She was very cute. Tired by the end, but as usual she held up well and stayed happy.
Little Linna. She's close to walking, just cruises around and gets into everything. She still loves to shake her head "no" and scrunches up her face and smiles. She's social - loves to engage with people and have a conversation, even if she doesn't know what it's about. She says a handful of words, and is learning signs at an alarming rate. She recently learned a new spitting trick (which I'm not so fond of) - she nurses and then spits milk all over me.
I love her!
