Cutie the Cute Cute

This morning we got everyone ready to go, and Jeff and I were trying to figure out who was going to take Ethan to Harmony. Finally we decided Jeff would, so he picked up Linna. She said, very clearly, "Bye, Mama!" It was sooo cute. I can't explain why, since she's been saying "bye" and "mama" for months. It's just how she put them together - it made her seem much more articulate.

Bugs

I learned the other day that Linna really, really doesn't like bugs. An ant crawled on her bare foot and she started to cry. Apparently she's done that before with Aileah.

But then this morning, there were hundreds of ants holding a convention on the front porch, and Linna became fascinated. (She did have shoes on, which probably helped.) If they got too close, she backed away, but she kept pointing and saying, "Buh!" I'd say, "Yes. Bugs!" and she'd say it again: "Buh!"

After we came inside, she was begging to go out and look at them again, "Buh! BUH!" but we had to wait for Ethan to get dressed, because he really didn't want us to go out without him. So we went out and looked at the buhs again, then spent some morning time in the backyard before Aileah came.

Book destructor

We were at the library last week to pick up a few more books for Ethan - we go quite regularly these days. I also got some books for Linna. Ethan wanted to do the summer reading game again, so he was filling out the card. I put Linna down to help him, and the woman working at the library was trying to tell me something about it. Before I knew it, Linna had pushed some low-hanging books through the shelf and onto the floor. As I picked those up, she scurried around the corner and did it again. And again. I felt like a sitcom mom.

Demanding girl

Tonight she loved the beans and rice (see my personal blog), and just kept yelling for it.

She LOVES strawberries. We have several plants out on the parking strip in front of the house, and she's learned that they're there... now every time she walks around out there, she roots around for strawberries. The other day she picked a half-green one, so I picked two red ones for her. She dropped one when Jeff picked her up to go up the stairs, and she pointed at it and said, "Num-num!"

Here are all the words I can think of that she says: bye, hi, wow, mama, dada, nana, brush, bath, ball, book, banana, cat, dog, get, did it!, that, yeah, no, more, cup, Linna, Ethan, up, down, pear, toe, where... she also signs more, banana, eat, please, bath, milk, drink, pee-yew!.

Molar fun

The other day Linna and I were trying to nap together, but she wasn't much interested due to her teething woes. I was almost asleep when she suddenly started crawling rapidly towards the edge of the bed... fortunately, with my lightning-fast mama reflexes, I snagged her ankle and she ended up hanging upside down with her head inches from the floor. Naturally, she thought it was hilarious and wanted to do it again.

Though we've hardly done it lately, now she does the sign for sleepy if she's, well, sleepy. Or if someone says "nap."

Karla gave us this green, bug-shaped, two-baby swing when Will and Anna outgrew it, and last week we put it up for Linna and Adrian to use. They love it. Linna wants it all the time. A few days ago Linna was sitting in it and Ethan was pushing her, and they were both giggling and giggling. I love moments like that.

Suddenly a little girl

OK, she's still a little pudge-ball, but mostly she looks like a little girl pudge-ball instead of a baby. She's totally intentional about things she does - what she wants, what she'll eat, what she says. Granted, ball, bath, and book sound awfully similar, but I think they're different to her.

Last night when they were both nursing, Linna reached over and played gently with Ethan's bangs.

She loves to play with the tiny watering can in the backyard, asking for it to be filled repeatedly. She even waters plants sometimes, but sometimes she gets confused and waters her pants instead.

She's been working on a molar, which has meant not much sleep and not much solid food (and hence not much solid poop... tmi?). But I think it's almost here.
