| Tomato Home ...The Tomato Tasting | ||||||||
| For the last two years, we've had a Tomato Tasting party. The 2000 Tasting was particularly exciting, with one key vote flipping the top two results at the last minute. | ||||||||
|
2000 results: By one vote, Boxcar Willie took first place, edging out Eva Purple Ball. Last year's winner,Cherry Bicolor Rainbow, came in third. 1999 results: Every tomato variety (except the store-bought) received at least one vote, but the clear winner was Cherry Bicolor Rainbow. Orange Oxheart came in second, and Pink Brandywine was third. |

| Naturally, we prepared many tomato-based dishes, such as a gorgeous tomato and mozzarella salad, bruschetta, and pasta with a tomato sauce. After lunch, which also included other, non-tomato food, we had the official tomato tasting. Much to our surprise and delight, everyone took the tomato-tasting very seriously, choosing three favorite varieties out of the fourteen offered (including the evil store-bought tomatoes -- but we made it clear that anyone listing those as among their favorites would not be invited back). |
