Relatives visit
Again, old news. The weekend before last, Ann & Paddy from England passed through Portland on their way to California and stayed with us for one night. I hadn't seen them for probably about 20 years. I had to make a sign for the airport in case we didn't recognize each other. We had a really nice time with them - they took us out to dinner while Matty watched the kids. We made a brief visit to downtown on Saturday, touring the Peace Plaza and the waterfront. Other than that we did just about nothing, but had lots of time to hang out and talk. Paddy was great with Ethan, engaging him immediately and playing games with him. Both Ann and Paddy are good conversationalists, in a way that I would aspire to be. Interesting to talk to, and just generally neat people. Visiting with them inspired both Jeff and me to want to go to England and visit the various relatives over there. Maybe in a few years.

And indeed, we have a new nanny
Her name is Mya. She's a musician. She's young - just out of college - and very enthusiastic. I'm enthusiastic, too, because she's incredibly helpful about things like laundry and dishes. In the mornings she just has Linna, so while Linna naps, she does stuff. It's fantastic. She also made lunch yesterday, which was nice. But most important, of course, is that she engages Ethan and they really have fun together.

Reluctance
I've been putting off making any entries here because a friend of mine passed away a few weeks ago and I don't really want to write about it, I guess. But it would feel weird to just go on and on about the happier minutiae of my life without mentioning it. So I'm mentioning it, and perhaps at some point I'll write more about it. Robin has been showing up in my dreams lately, and Jeff and I can talk about him and our memories of him, but I still haven't really connected to the fact that he's gone yet.
